Choose a longitudinal case study from a child learning UK English from the CHILDES database. Choose 2 different data points (at least 3 months apart). Identify the 10 most frequent verbs in the child’s input (Time 1, using the Freq command) and compare to the most frequent verbs in the child data a month later (Time 2, Freq command). Is the child’s use of verbs in line with that of the input? Discuss the effect of the input on children’s developing language based on your findings as well as theoretical views such as the usage based theory.
